Background Marcia Levitus is a physical chemist who in recent years has concentrated in the application of fluorescence spectroscopy to biophysical research. Her current interests are focused on the study of the conformational dynamics of biopolymers at the single-molecule level. Examples include the study of DNA flexibility, DNA-protein interactions in nucleosomes, RNA structure and dynamics, etc. Research in her group also involves the study of the photophysical properties of fluorescent probes commonly used in single-molecule biophysics, particularly in the context of the quantitative analysis of single-molecule data. The Levitus lab is also interested in techniques that allow the manipulation of individual molecules, such as magnetic or laser tweezers, and in combining these techniques with fluorescence methods. |
